About Learning Today
Headquartered in Plantation, Florida, Learning Today was established in 2000 to develop Smart Tutor, a web-based educational software program for Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Learning Today’s primary goal is to research, develop, and deliver effective online reading and math assessment and interactive instructional content to students in order to support instruction and targeted intervention.
Robin, Dale, Grant & Wyatt

How it All Began
It was their love of children combined with their software backgrounds that inspired Dale and Robin to create a fun program focused on elementary education and early childhood development. As parents of two young boys (known affectionately as the Baker Boys), Dale and Robin wanted to develop software that would make a real impact on teaching and learning.
A Small Team with a Big Dream
As a result, Learning Today began in their home office with a small team of five people. Their first product was used successfully by their own children as well as other homeschoolers. Two years later they decided to make it available to schools. They grew their team and moved out of their home into a “real office”! The curriculum was expanded and lessons covering key reading and math skills that aligned to national and state standards were added.
Helping Kids Succeed
In the fall of 2002, the program was piloted in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The feedback from teachers was overwhelmingly positive, and the program soon grew, expanding to include teachers and students from all over the country. Emails and success stories started pouring in. One teacher even wrote in about two students in an ESOL program who had made it into the gifted program. “They are hooked on Learning Today!” she wrote.
Rave Reviews!
In April of 2008, Smart Tutor – Reading won the BESSIE award for Best Educational Software in the Early Elementary and Upper Elementary categories. “Smart Tutor - Reading's website design and content are the best we've seen for delivering reading materials to children in the K-5 age group” wrote reviewers.
A Smarter Way to Tutor – Smart Tutor.com
After four years of working with teachers and students in schools and receiving many requests from parents who also wanted to use the program at home, Dale and Robin decided it was time to make the product available to all families… regardless of where their children attend school.
Now Smart Tutor is available to all children, everywhere just as Dale and Robin envisioned it back in 2000.
